The two decisions a match comes down to
Basketball Legends is arcade basketball with the rulebook thrown out. No shot clock, no fouls, no five-man team — two caricatured legends on a half-court, one ball, and a scoreline that can swing three times in the last twenty seconds. Underneath the noise there are only two decisions, and both of them are about timing rather than aim.
When to leave the floor. Shooting and blocking are the same contest, and whoever jumps second usually wins it. On defence that means waiting for the shooter to commit; on offence it means pumping once so the defender commits first. Everything a good player does around the rim is an attempt to make the other one jump early.
When to spend the super. The bar fills from scoring, stealing and blocking. A super shot cannot be blocked and is worth the same from the corner as from under the basket — which means cashing it on an open layup throws away the one shot that beats a defender who has read you. Hold it for a possession you would otherwise lose.
The roster is not cosmetic
Each legend has different speed, jump height and a different super animation, and the animation length matters: a slow super can be stolen out of the wind-up by a fast character standing close. If you keep losing the same matchup, changing character is a legitimate answer.
Modes
- 1 Player — you against the CPU. The AI reads jumps well and punishes an early one, which makes it decent practice for the pump fake.
- 2 Player — two people on the same keyboard, no room code and no lobby. This is what the game is for.
- Tournament — a bracket of CPU legends with the difficulty stepping up each round and no save between them.
Every key, both players
| Action | Player 1 | Player 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W A S D | Arrow keys |
| Shoot / steal | B | L |
| Pump / block | S | Down arrow |
| Super shot | V | K |
| Action / dash | D | J |
Both sets are live at once and nothing needs configuring — a second player can sit down mid-match and start using the arrow keys.
Four habits that win close games
- Steal on the landing. Pressing shoot at a player in the air does nothing and freezes you for about a second. Press it the instant they touch down.
- Pump before shooting when guarded. One pump moves a defender off the floor; the shot after it is uncontested.
- Do not chase a rebound you cannot reach. Being under the rim when the ball comes off is worth more than arriving fast from the wing.
- Play the clock at the end. With a one-point lead and five seconds left, holding the ball in the corner is a legal and extremely annoying way to win.
Frequently asked questions
Is Basketball Legends free to play here?
Yes. The game runs in the page, costs nothing and needs no account. Press play and you are picking a team in a few seconds.
How do I play two-player on one keyboard?
Choose 2 Player from the menu. One player uses W A S D with B, V and D; the other uses the arrow keys with L, K and J. Nothing has to be configured — both sets are live at once.
What is the super shot and how do I charge it?
The bar under your player fills as you score, steal and block. When it is full, the super-shot key throws a shot that cannot be blocked and is worth the same points from anywhere on the floor. Spending it on a wide-open layup wastes it; save it for a contested three.
How do I steal the ball?
The shoot key doubles as steal when the other player has possession. Time it as they land from a dribble rather than mid-air — a mistimed press leaves you flat-footed for about a second.
Can I play as real NBA players?
The roster is a set of caricatured legends rather than a licensed NBA team list, so the names are approximations. Each one has different speed, jump height and a different super shot.
Does it work on a school Chromebook?
Yes. It is a plain HTML5 build served over HTTPS from this domain, so there is nothing to install and no extension to add.
Who made Basketball Legends?
MadPuffers, the studio behind the Legends series — Soccer Legends, Boxing Legends and Volleyball Legends all run on the same two-button arcade sports engine.
